Class types

Pilates classes we offer at Clifford Studios.

Mat Pilates

In each class you will be taken through an increasingly challenging series of Pilates exercises designed to build core strength. By targeting the deep architectural muscles of the body, posture will improve and an overall longer + leaner look achieved. Mat Pilates is suitable for everyone, with exercises being adapted to suit every level and any limitations.

Mat Pilates is often prescribed by GPs to those suffering injuries (particularly back issues) and is known for it’s rehabilitative qualities.

Springboard

Invented by Ellie Herman, the Springboard is a wall-mounted resistance machine that provides an invigorating full-body workout.

Springboard classes incorporate mat work, props, leg and arm springs, and more. We even have a dedicated Springboard + Spine Corrector class!

Clifford Studios is one of only 2 studios in London offering these classes and Jo trained privately with Ellie in Brooklyn, NYC in order to bring this innovative take on the Pilates method to Barnes.

Springboard Spine Corrector

Using the spine corrector along side the springs, this class explores exercises that strengthen and lengthen the whole body while mobilising the spine and restoring its natural curvature.

The spine corrector is also used to support the body in some of the more advanced spring board exercises to bring it closer to the desired alignment.

The class is a mixed equipment class combining exercises on the mat, Springboard, and spine corrector.

Dynamic Springboard

Combining the precision of Pilates with the feel-good benefits of a cardio session, this upbeat class is designed to elevate your heart rate while keeping movements controlled and low impact.

Using the Springboard for added resistance, you’ll build strength, improve endurance, and move with intention; all without the need for high-impact exercises.

This class will leave you energised, uplifted, and riding that post-workout endorphin high (all set to a great playlist).

Springboard Stretch

A slower, flowing session to help you unwind and lengthen through the body.  The resistance of the springs gently deepen each stretch, while the bar and handles provide support to explore greater range with confidence.

Expect a full-body stretch that releases tension, improves mobility, and leaves you feeling open, aligned, and at ease in your joints.

The energy! Everyone is welcoming, supportive, and up for a challenge. There’s a real sense of community that makes training fun plus, it’s a space where people genuinely want to move and improve.

What inspired you to become an instructor?
After so many years in the dance world I got curious about exploring movement from a non artistic and aesthetic point of view. I'm passionate about exercise science and biomechanics and have an evidence based teaching approach to movement in general.

What's your favourite thing about teaching?
Getting people moving and feeling great about themselves. Encouraging them to look for a form of exercise they enjoy doing rather than something the feel they have to do.

What do you love about CS?
The friendships that form in the studio and carry on in the outside world. Client progression is important to me and at CS we celebrate small, personal wins all the time!
