Developing strength and flexibility is at the core of our children’s classes in Barnes, SW13. We make dance captivating and interesting; through shows, exams and the unique approach and attitude of our teachers.
Small class sizes mean our experienced teachers give attention to and get to know each child; individualising their approach where necessary. As a result, our pupils learn not only pirouettes and high kicks but also the value of commitment, hard work and discipline.
Reviews
We started with 2 classes in Barnes in 2012 and now boast 28 per week. Find out why students and parents love our classes and approach.
My daugther has been attending Clifford Studios for 1 term now and I am incredibly happy with her progress in this time. She started the term wih no previous tap experience and has now just participated in her end of term showcase. The teachers are energetic and responsive. We are very happy with our experience thus far.
Nora loves her dance classes at Kitson Hall. She is always smiling and in a very happy mood at pick-up time. At home, Nora loves showing us her moves and practicing what she learns. Thank you!
Great range of classes. My daughters love dancing here. The teachers are amazing and go above and beyond to help with technique and dance moves. We love Clifford Studios and the community here.
Clifford Studios has been an incredible place for my daughter's Ballet journey. The instructors are incredible, providing guidance and support in a nurturing environment. The strong sense of community and the opportunities for performances ahev truly enriched her dance experience. I am so grarteful for the growth and joy she has found with Jo and the team!
My daugher (aged 6) loves coming to dancing every week. You can see the joy that dancing at Clifford Studios brings her and how proud she is when she is performing. We have seen a real improvement and I think her enthusiasm is a real testament to Ellis and the other teachers at Clifford Studios.
My 10 year old daughter's classes at Clifford are without fail a highlight of her week. The teachers are dedicated and kind, there is a lovely mix of emphasis on fun, exams and showcases, depending on your preference. The showcases and Saturday classes combine age groups which gives a lovely community feel. I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend this fantastic dance school.
My daughter (now 9) started at Clifford Studios when she was 2 and ever since, her Saturday morning class has been the highlight of her week. Jo and the team are exceptional. Would highly recommend Clifford Studios to any dancers or exercise enthusiasts.
My kids have loved being part of the Clifford Studios family - they started out with one class a week and now do 4 or 5. The teachers are fun, kind and know how to get the best out of the kids. A great dance company which is inclusive, encouraging and progressive.
Staff

Jo Higlett
Jo began dancing at the rather early age of 2, when convenience required her to be taken to classes at the same time as her older sister. Immediately finding her passion she went on to train intensively in Tap, Jazz, Modern and Ballet.
Whilst studying History at the University of Birmingham, she began her ISTD teaching qualifications. Upon graduating, she combined teaching with auditioning and performing. She was quickly employed at a variety of schools and studios across London and, once committed to teaching full time, took on the next level of qualifications.
In 2010 she added Pilates to her repertoire which has further enhanced her ability to train pupils to a high standard. The excellent exam results achieved by the pupils Jo has entered, and the high quality and entertaining bi-annual shows she produces, are testament to her skills as a teacher and choreographer.
In 2012 she fulfilled her childhood ambition and opened her own school – Clifford Studios - in her grandfather’s name. After adding more fitness teaching qualifications to her list, in 2018 she took on her own high street studio space with Clifford Studios becoming a fixture of Barnes. Many SW13 parents and their children attend the 58 weekly fitness and dance classes on offer at the studio and other community venues.
Jo finds teaching both fascinating and fulfilling, juggling this with running the studio + looking after her daughter Ray and dog Sheldon.

Ellis Fitzherbert
Ellis began her training aged 3, studying Ballet, Tap, Modern + Jazz (in her later years being taught by Miss Jo).
During this time, alongside studying the ISTD + RAD syllabi, she appeared in numerous professional productions. These included the UK tour of Evita, Spiller’s Pantomimes (Junior and Senior dancer), Paper Moon Company (Music Hall at Leicester Square Theatre and Trafalgar Square), Kingston International Youth Arts Festival and the 100th anniversary gala performance of Wimbledon Theatre.
Ellis has been an assistant teacher since the age of 15, embarking on her official teaching qualifications in 2014. She has now achieved her ISTD Diploma in Dance Education in both Modern and Tap and is continuing to further her teaching qualifications alongside teaching at another school in Crawley, Surrey.
In 2016 Ellis took over the teaching of the Adult Tap classes and in 2017 also took on a Barre qualification. Ellis is the Children's Class Manager at Clifford Studios and has in recent years begun developing a 'Festival Team' of hand selected students to compete in various competitions.

Naomi Smart
Naomi started her dance training at the age of 10 at Hurst Lodge School, where Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Tap were part of the daily timetable. Whilst here she performed several times a year, falling in love with the grace and discipline of Ballet. By the age of 16 she was dancing 15 hours a week and became Dance Captain in her final years of school, taking on leading roles in musicals such as ‘Singing in the Rain’ as well as choreographing for a number of events.
Alongside studying for a PhD (with a focus on community dance!) Naomi gained her teaching qualifications in Ballet with the RAD and Modern Theatre with the ISTD.
Finding her passion in teaching and inspiring young dancers, Naomi loves any opportunity to teach, and now balances this love with performing, choreographing and training with Chelsea Ballet Company. She has completed the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies with the RAD and now delivers training to fellow teachers as part of the RAD’s Continuing Professional Development team.
