Class types

Barre classes we offer at Clifford Studios.

Barre

Barre utilises the body’s own resistance in conjunction with weights and other small equipment. Exercises are performed at the barre and on the mat. Small isometric contractions are integrated with an interval training approach that burns fat and improves cardiovascular fitness.

This workout is suitable for everybody; various modifications are given throughout the class to cater for all. Each teacher brings a different approach to the Barre so don't expect the same class style from all!

Barre + Stretch

30 mins of Barre followed by a full body stretch. The 15 minutes starts with the head, neck, shoulders and spine; going all the way to the deep hip flexors and hamstrings for splits.

Stretching is passive; letting gravity do the work once the correct alignment is found. This is combined with active stretching; especially for those who are more mobile; using arm strength to increase the depth of the stretches. After the warm up stretches, each are held from 30 sec - 3min each.

Johanna has based the class and stretches on the structure she followed for years as a dance student and later a professional dancer.

What inspired you to become an instructor?
After so many years in the dance world I got curious about exploring movement from a non artistic and aesthetic point of view. I'm passionate about exercise science and biomechanics and have an evidence based teaching approach to movement in general.

What's your favourite thing about teaching?
Getting people moving and feeling great about themselves. Encouraging them to look for a form of exercise they enjoy doing rather than something the feel they have to do.

What do you love about CS?
The friendships that form in the studio and carry on in the outside world. Client progression is important to me and at CS we celebrate small, personal wins all the time!

Seeing the immediate positive effect it has on people.

What do you love about CS?

What inspired you to become an instructor?
With a background in performing and dance, I wanted to find a movement form with similar techniques which were just as fulfilling, which is where my love for Pilates started.

What's your favourite thing about teaching?
I love what Barre and Pilates can do for the mind and body at such a low but connected impact. I am very committed to adapting movements and motivating you so that together we can create a comfortable and positive environment in the studio, leaving you feeling confident and set up for the day.

What do you love about CS?
Can't wait to find out!
