Jo Higlett - Pilates & Barre

Jo trained as a dancer, discovering Pilates in 2007. A firm believer in the philosophy ‘if you’re not sweating, it’s not hard enough’, she initially practised reformer Pilates only, believing mat work to be too gentle. However, whilst training to teach reformer Pilates, she reluctantly tried out a mat work class. To her surprise she found that exercises on the mat, performed with correct placement of the body, were equally if not more challenging than utilising a machine; the pulleys, weights + springs sometimes masking incorrect technique, especially in beginners.

Whilst she still loves sweating it out on the reformer (and gets to do so whilst teaching Barre ), she was converted and immediately began training for a mat work qualification with Body Control Pilates. She finds Pilates exercises invaluable to her dance teaching.
