Update - June 2018

RAD Exams - June 2018

We are pleased to be holding Ballet exams at Kitson Hall on Wednesday 20th June 2018.

If this will be your child's first exam with Clifford Studios, please take the time to read the blog post here. It's about why we do exams and the school's approach to them.

You will have received an email stating which exam we are considering your child for and whether it will be an exam or class award. If you are unsure, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Pupils will take their exams in groups of 2 – 4 and wear their Clifford Studios Ballet uniform with satin ballet shoes. The ballet shoe hire is included in the exam fee. Students taking exams do so without Miss Lucy present in the room. Students taking their Class Award do so with Miss Lucy in the room.

Approximately 6 weeks after the exam session, the RAD will send the exam results through to the school. Pupils will receive either a Pass, Merit or Distinction. They are awarded marks in several criteria and the overall percentage totalled to ascertain their result. Students taking a Class Award receive a broader overview of their standard.

The school distributes the mark sheets in a sealed envelope to each pupil. Pupils should not open these at the hall/studio and pupils have no obligation to share their results with anyone other than their parents.

Following this, the school will receive the certificates and medals from the RAD and at this point, parents will be invited into the class to see their children receive their certificates.

Pupils need to ensure consistent attendance throughout the year however, in ‘exam term’ (in this case the Summer Term), it is particularly important.

In addition to the once a week classes, pupils taking exams will be required to take part in coaching sessions. If the required number of coaching sessions/classes are not met, we will have to withdraw your child from the exam. We would far rather a pupil did not take an exam than did so underprepared. A positive exam experience is fun and enjoyable, however a negative one can be extremely damaging to a pupil's confidence and love of dance.

As pupils will be taking their exams in small groups, they need to rehearse doing so. This will include where to stand, which order to dance in and in general familiarise themselves with dancing some exercises solo.

Exams are a non profit making part of the school. The RAD sets the exam fees themselves and we then charge a further fee to cover extra coaching (hall hire + teacher time), hall hire for exam day, examiner refreshment, practise music and music operator.

Fees are as follows:

Primary (Exam)  - £53.00
